Shower replacement or tub-to-shower conversion
Replacing an existing shower starts with what is there: its base, walls, controls and enclosure. A tub-to-shower conversion starts with a different bathing fixture and needs a plan for the space left when it is removed. Neither should be priced only as a new glass door or a wall finish.
If the vanity, floor and lighting also need a reset, compare the shower project with a full bathroom remodel. If you are keeping those items, ask how they will be protected and where the new work will meet them.
Shower walls, base and glass choices
Look at the shower as a set of parts that must work together. Ask the provider to explain the proposed base, drain, wall system, corners, fittings and enclosure. Confirm which manufacturer’s installation and care guidance applies to the selected products.
A tiled finish allows you to discuss tile size, pattern and joints as design choices. A panel system offers a different finish and set of product options. Compare actual samples, cleaning instructions and the full installation proposal; do not assume two surfaces have the same preparation needs or warranty.
For glass, discuss the opening direction and cleaning access in the finished room. If a particular door arrangement crowds the toilet or vanity, consider another enclosure before ordering.
Shower entry and everyday use
Think through reaching the controls, stepping in, putting toiletries down and cleaning afterward. If a step is difficult, explain that to the provider. Ask what entry options are feasible in your room and what changes they would require.
A curbless design, a low threshold and a seat are different requests. Have the whole layout assessed for the user’s needs. This guide does not certify an accessible design or promise that a particular fitting prevents falls.
What affects the shower remodeling price?
| Scope question | Why it belongs in the proposal |
|---|---|
| What will be removed? | A door replacement is different from stripping the bathing area |
| What needs assessment? | Existing surfaces and connections need a property-specific decision |
| Which plumbing changes are included? | Controls, outlets and drain work should be named |
| What completes the room? | Adjacent floor, paint and trim repairs can be easy to overlook |
| Who supplies the enclosure? | Measurement, delivery and installation need an assigned owner |
Use the cost guide for the comparison worksheet. The published bathroom examples there cover a broader room scope; they are not a shower installation price. Ask for a proposal for the exact work you want.
Working in a Pompano Beach condo
The city’s housing profile includes many units in large shared buildings. For your unit, confirm the actual arrangements for water access, deliveries and protecting common areas. Ask the building manager about work hours before choosing a start date. City housing plan, Table 26.
See the condo renovation checklist for approval and access questions. The permit guide points to the city’s kitchen and bath requirements. A small room does not by itself settle the permit question.
